Career Counseling utilize a 3-phase process. I start with a deepening introspective discovery and clarifying of your career goals and then go on to exploring opportunities. Finally, I help you make decisions and move forward.

Phase 1 - Getting to know what's special about you

We focus on your distinctive talents and career requirements. Sometimes, we use a variety of career assessments to build our discussions on and provide a foundation to build on.

What are your interests, motivators, career values and work style? We nail down your career 'assets' - the many strengths and competencies you bring to the table. You do a lot of hard thinking and some reading between sessions. I do a lot of questioning and we have grounded discussions. You come away with a clear sense of what you want (and don't want) and what you have to offer. Typically 3-4 weekly sessions.

Phase 2 - Connecting with a world of possibilities

We widen the window on choices and then help you narrow the field to find the best fit. Your homework shifts to on-line research and finally to information interviews with real people about their careers. I direct you to resources AND people and coach you through … but you do the work. We set up a course of action and a time frame to move you in that direction. Depending on your situation, this part can be somewhat "fluid"- typically 3-4 sessions over a few months. When we're done, you have several, well researched options to choose from.

Phase 3 - Making decisions and moving forward

I help you weigh the options, make decisions and plot the first steps.

Personal Brand Building

The first step we'll attach is to Discover your brand. Brand discovery is about figuring out what you want to do for the rest of your life, setting goals, writing down a mission, vision and personal brand statement (what you do and who you serve), as well as creating a development plan. Have you ever been called intelligent or humorous by your peers or coworkers? That description is part of your brand, especially if you feel those attributed pertain to you. To know if you’ve discovered your brand, you need to make this equation equal:

Your self-impression =

How people perceive you

Now we need to create your brand. Now that you know what you want to do and have claimed a niche, at least in your mind, it’s time to get it on paper and online. The sum of all the marketing material you should develop for your brand is called a Personal Branding Toolkit. This kit consists of the following elements that you can use to highlight your brand and allow people to easily view what you’re about:

1. A Business Card with your picture, mission statement and contact info.

2. Resume, cover letter and references

3. Portfolio

4. BLOG/web site

5. Linkedin Profile

6. Facebook profile

7. Twitter profile

8. Google profile

8. Video resume

9. Wardrobe

10. e-mail

These aren't all required and of course our strategy and tactics are scalable. The key is to start thinking like a brand and a marketer of that brand.
